My Name Is Loh Kiwan is a South Korean drama film written and directed by Kim Hee-jin. The movie is based on the 2019 novel “I Met Loh Kiwan” by Cho Hae-jin.
It tells the story of Loh Kiwan (Song Joong-ki), a North Korean defector who embarks on a challenging journey to build a new life in Belgium.

Brussels presents a stark contrast to the life Kiwan knew. Struggling with homelessness and the harsh realities of survival in a foreign land with a language barrier, Kiwan clings to his mother’s dying wish—to find a place where he can finally own his own life and identity.
Amidst the bleakness, a flicker of hope emerges when Kiwan encounters Marie (Choi Sung-eun).
Marie is a former Belgian shooting athlete who is also grappling with her own demons and has lost her sense of purpose. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, a unique bond forms between them.
As Kiwan navigates the bureaucratic hurdles of obtaining refugee status, he faces constant rejection and uncertainty.
Through Marie, Kiwan begins to experience glimpses of the life he might build. Together, they forge a connection that provides solace and strength.
Marie, with her own past struggles, helps Kiwan navigate the complexities of Belgian life and culture.
